3 advices to event organisers

Morten who is a fellow LARPer and Scare actor, from Dystopia Haunted House in Vejle, gives here a QuickTip with 3 advices to LARP event organisers.

Big thanks to Morten for this LARP QuickTip.

Watch the video above with a few good advices for when your are making a LARP event.

In short bring:

  1. check out your location
  2. know your crew
  3. chocolate and soda

Check out your Location

Always check out your location before hand. You might think this is common sense, but not always for everybody. Basic things like what the location looks like, where its placed and Toilets. Are some of the more pratical thinks that people often forget, simply because they get to over eager.

Also check out what you can and can not do in an area is important.

Is it allowed to dig holes? Can you hang stuff between the trees? Are you allowed to block the foret parts?

Back in the day I help run a campaign, in an area where there were two forests bordering up to one-another.

And we where only allowed to be in on of them. Unfortunately we dod not know where the border between them where. Which resultet in an awaked conversation with the owner of the other forest.

Know your Crew

Know the people you are working with. Everybody needs to be “sort of” on the same page.

When I write “sort of”, I mean the the practical/support crew, the ones that build props and set up for the event, don’t need to be the same page for building stuff (although it helps).

Other GM’s and NPC’s do however need to be on the same page. As an organiser you want to be able to trust the GM’s not having the “power” going to their head. And trust that the NPC’s are not “stealing” all the plot.

Then again you as an organiser should also be open to your crew and be able to listen to them. Otherwise you risk getting stuck in old ideas.

Cocolate and Soda

Take good care of your crew. They are there to help you so support them, while they support you putting together a brilliant event.

The least thing you can do for their help is to provide with something to eat and drink to fill up that energy meter. Also pizza is very good idea.
